Singapore All Set To Host Its Second Casino

Genting International won the contract to host Singapore's second casino on the Friday. The venture has been estimated at an astonishing 5.2 billion Singapore dollars. This will be in partnership with Star Cruises. The proposed casino will house a Universal Studios theme park, a huge outdoor marine park, 1,830 hotel rooms and the world's largest casino. It is schedules to go live in 2010. The site open for this is a 49 hectare or 121 acre land in Sentosa Island.
The first casino of Singapore is scheduled to open by July 2009. The first casino of Singapore will be owned by Las Vegas Sands.
Las Vegas-based Eighth Wonder and Bahamas based Kerzner International were the other companies who had placed their bid contract on the project. Genting runs two casinos in Malaysia. The Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore said that Genting has provided the most appealing proposal. The casino aims to have a large-scale family oriented resort that will be able to lure a large number of tourists.
Kerzner International along together with Southeast Asia's largest property development company CapitaLand had submitted a proposal of 3.3 billion dollar with the designs by architect Frank Gehry.
The design reproduced the tropical resort feel of the Sentosa Island. The design has extensive use or water, stone and wood materials in its buildings and landscaping.
The casino is proposed to have six hotels. One of the hotels will be designed by Michael Graves which will have more than 1,800 rooms. There also be a 20 acre marine park and a whale shark lagoon. The Universal Studios theme park proposed to be housed in the casino area will be the second largest in Asia. It will have 22 attractions, 16 of then specifically for Singapore. It will also have a DreamWorks Digital Animation Studio. The resort at the casino will have meeting facilities, retail stores and a 1,600-seat theatre.
Eighth Wonder along with its partner companies of Isle of Capri Casinos, James Packer's Publishing and Broadcasting and Melco International Development has placed the highest amount at 3.5 billion dollars.
Singapore lifted its ban on the casino gambling last year. This was a move to increase the tourists visits to Singapore to double the number to 17 million in 2015. The Singapore Government has also informed that it will not be giving away any other casino license for over a decade. The casino will have to adhere to the rule that 70 percent of the island will be maintained green with plant life.
